Origin settings define where CDNetworks retrieves live streams for a delivery domain that uses Origin Pull. Use this guide to update a single domain, configure advanced origin routing, or apply the same origin settings to multiple compatible domains.
Make sure you have:
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Origin Protocol | Yes | Select the protocol used when CDN pulls the stream from the origin. HTTP-FLV/RTMP domains can use HTTP-FLV or RTMP. HLS domains use HLS origin settings. However, switching between HTTP-FLV/RTMP and HLS is not supported. To change protocol families, you must delete the domain and re-add it. |
| HTTPS Origin-Pull | Conditional | Enables HTTPS for requests from CDN to the origin when the protocol and origin support HTTPS origin pull. |
| IPs/Hostname | Yes | Enter the origin server IP address, multiple origin IP addresses, or a hostname. |
| Port | Yes | Enter the port that CDN should use to connect to the origin. |
| Host Header | Conditional | Enter the hostname that CDN sends in the Host header when requesting content from the origin. |
| Advanced Origin | No | Enables multiple origin addresses and routing behavior. Use this when you need failover or traffic distribution across more than one origin. |
Use Advanced Origin when a domain needs more than one origin address. The available controls depend on the origin protocol.
After you set Advanced Origin to On, configure the origin address table.
| Setting | Behavior | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Off | CDN uses the first origin address as the primary origin and uses the remaining addresses as backup origins in order. | Origin failover |
| On | CDN rotates requests across the configured origin addresses. With Origins A and B: Request 1 → A, Request 2 → B, Request 3 → A. | Traffic distribution |
For HLS origin pull, advanced origin routing uses Priority and Weight.
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Origin Address | Yes | Enter the IP address or hostname of the origin server. |
| Priority | Yes | Controls failover order. A lower number has higher priority. CDN uses lower-priority tiers only when the higher-priority tier is unavailable. |
| Weight | Yes | Controls traffic distribution among origins with the same priority. Higher weight values receive a larger share of requests. |
| Host Header | No | Overrides the Host header for this origin address. |
Use batch editing when multiple compatible domains need the same origin settings.
Important: Select only domains that meet all batch-edit requirements. The domains must be active, configured for Origin Pull, and in the same origin protocol family.
