About DRM

Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology utilizes encryption to safeguard copyrighted digital media and prevent unauthorized distribution. CDNetworks DRM integrates with Irdeto, a third-party DRM service that enables you to protect your content from unauthorized access.

You do not need an Irdeto account to use DRM, as CDNetworks Media Solution has seamlessly integrated with Irdeto. This integration simplifies the DRM implementation process for you, eliminating the need for packager side integration with Irdeto.

At present, CDNetworks Media Acceleration Live Broadcast supports the following DRM systems:

  • Widevine and Microsoft PlayReady: Supports MPEG-DASH playback across Google and Microsoft platforms and devices, including Android smartphones, Chrome, and Microsoft Edge.
  • FairPlay: Supports HLS playback on Apple platforms and devices, such as Safari and iPhone. Please be aware that for FairPlay, you’ll need Apple’s authorization, and you must upload your FPS certificate prior to playback. For information on requesting a FairPlay certificate, refer to Apply for a FairPlay Certificate.

Our DRM solution can encrypt your stream with both FairPlay, Widevine and PlayReady, ensuring protection across a broad spectrum of devices and platforms.

How it works

With this architecture, you do not have to manage key management, stream encryption, or stream delivery - we handle all of these aspects for you. Your only task is to specify which stream you wish to encrypt and generate a license acquisition URL to obtain a decryption license. You can find additional details at the following links:
