1.1 Brief Introduction

Regional content adaption means that CDN PoPs deliver differentiated content to users based on their regions, IDs, access periods and other information. For example, the landing page for Asian visitors is in the Asian-preferred modest style, while the landing page for European visitors is in the minimalist style.

1.3 Application Scenarios

This feature is applicable to user-oriented websites, including e-commerce websites, social networking websites and information websites, whose users are of distinctive characteristics and needs.

In the streaming media scenario, this feature can be used as regional access restrictions which are based on the copyright of customers in different regions, making sure that the streaming media can be accessed in the specific areas.

2 Feature Detail

When an end-user accesses information through a domain name, which will be resolved to a the proximate CDN edge PoP by CDNetworks global load balancing system (hereafter abbr. as GSLB). After edge PoP receives user request and other information along with the request, such as IP, user ID, current time, User Agent and other fixed information, it will identify the user, find the match internally, and finally determine and deliver user-preferred content or the content our customers want to show to their users.
Matching methods for different types of information:

Matching Methods Determining Methods
Based on regional information Firstly, use the CDNetworks IP database to identify the IP location of user request; secondly, do the mapping of the regional name with configuration and find the match; thirdly, deliver the content of the corresponding region to the user. When the content that user requests differentiates in regions, different URLs should be used.
Based on time information Match the time of current request with the pre-configured time range (determined by customers), and respond the content corresponding to a certain time range after the match.
Based on ID or other information Identify user ID, User Agent and other fixed information. For example, identify user ID by the cookies in user request and return different content based on the info. For example, respond with the ads designed for VIP users if the cookie indicates the user is a VIP user of the website (the rule of the matching between ID and content are provided by customers).
